Updated Electron-conduction Opacities: the Impact on Low-mass Stellar Models
نویسندگان
چکیده
We review the theory of electron-conduction opacity, a fundamental ingredient in the computation of low-mass stellar models; shortcomings and limitations of the existing calculations used in stellar evolution are discussed. We then present new determinations of the electron-conduction opacity in stellar conditions for an arbitrary chemical composition that improve over previous works and, most importantly, cover the whole parameter space relevant to stellar evolution models (i.e., both the regime of partial and high electron degeneracy). A detailed comparison with the currently used tabulations is also performed. The impact of our new opacities on the evolution of low-mass stars is assessed by computing stellar models along both the Hand He-burning evolutionary phases, as well as main sequence models of very low-mass stars and white dwarf cooling tracks. Subject headinggs: conduction — stars: evolution — stars: horizontal-branch — stars: interiors — white dwarfs

Internal temperatures and cooling of neutron stars with accreted envelopes
The relationships between the effective surface (Teff ) and internal temperatures of neutron stars (NSs) with and without accreted envelopes are calculated for Teff > 5 × 104 K using new data on the equation of state and opacities in the outer NS layers. We examine various models of accreted layers (H, He, C, O shells produced by nuclear transformations in accreted matter). We employ new Opacit...
متن کاملRelativistic Stellar Models with Quadratic Equation of State
In this paper, we have obtained and presented new relativistic stellar configurations considering an anisotropic fluid distribution with a charge distribution and a gravitational potential Z(x) that depends on an adjustable parameter. The quadratic equation of state based on Feroze and Siddiqui viewpoint is used for the matter distribution. The new solutions can be written in terms of elementar...
متن کاملThe effect of the electron donor H + 3 on the pre - main and Main Sequence evolution of low mass zero metallicity stars
The effect of the electron donor H + 3 on the pre-main and Main Sequence evolution of low mass zero metallicity stars. ABSTRACT H + 3 has been shown (Lenzuni et al. 1991, ApJS, 76, 759) to be the dominant positive ion, in a zero metallicity gas at low temperature and intermediate to high density. It therefore affects both the number of free electrons and the opacity of the gas. The most recent ...
متن کاملThe effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations
Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...
متن کاملEvaluation of New MOND Interpolating Function with Rotation Curves of Galaxies
The rotation curves of a sample of 46 low- and high-surface brightness galaxies are considered in the context of Milgrom's modi_ed dynamics (MOND) to test a new interpolating function proposed by Zhao et al. (2010) [1] and compare with the results of simple interpolating function. The predicted rotation curves are calculated from the total baryonic matter based on the B-band surface photometry,...
